The 10 best combat powers in Pokémon GO

Combat Power (CP) is an indication of your Pokemon’s strength and prowess in battle. In truth, they only tell half the story. Some of the higher CP Pokémon are terrible for gym battles and raids, for example. In general, though, you’ll want to keep track of your higher CP Pokemon, as well as try to get them. Knowing which Pokemon to use your Pinap Berries on is important, you’ll want to maximize the efficiency of the candy.

I will review the 10 Pokémon with the highest possible combat power in Pokémon GO. Based on raw stats, this assumes the Pokemon has 100% IV. If you want to dominate the battles of trainers, gyms and raids, this list will be all you need!

10.Metagross

pcs max.: 3791

How to get: Evolve beldum with 25 candies, then evolve metang with 100 candies.

You will notice that many of the Pokemon on this list are difficult to obtain, Metagross being one of them. Beldum rarely appear in the wild, hunting them can be a tedious task. It’s worth it though, as Metagross has a considerably high max combat power.

Able to learn Meteor Mash, this Pokémon will demolish enemies in both PvP and PvE!

9. Dragonite

pcs max.: 3792

How to get: Evolve Dratini with 25 candies, then evolve dragonair with 100 candies.

Like the previous entry, Dragonite can take many weeks to acquire. Considered a fan favorite for its generalist nature, Dragonite has proven to be a formidable Pokémon in countless games. In Pokémon GO, it is effective in all aspects of fighting.

You’ll find the opposing trainer’s Dragonites in gyms all over the place and for good reason, they can be a nightmare to deal with.

8. Latios

pcs max.: 3812

How to get: Sometimes available as research and raid advancement rewards.

One of the Pokemon, if not the easiest to get on this list. Latios requires rare candies to power up, but at full combat power, he’ll hit like a truck. Providing much more offensive stats than defensive stats, you’ll be using it more as an attacker to take over gyms or fight in raids.

7. Tyranitar

pcs max.: 3834

How to get: Evolve Larvitate with 25 candies, then evolve pupitate with 100 candies.

With high stats across the board, Tyranitar hits hard and takes a lot of damage. Larvitar is one of the easiest basic Pokémon to find (compared to others on the list anyway), so Tyranitar might be the best option for your hunt.

Considered the best Dark-type attacker in the entire game, every trainer needs a Tyranitar in their arsenal.

6.Rayquaza

pcs max.: 3835

How to get: Sometimes available as a raid boss.

Rayquaza, with incredibly high attack stats, is an epic boss Pokémon. Ranked as the best Flying-type attacker available, it also has access to some good Dragon-type moves. Obtaining it can be difficult though, as it rarely appears as a raid boss.

Try looking for local Pokemon GO groups on social media, you can never win a Rayquaza raid alone!

5. Ho-Oh

pcs max.: 3863

How to get: Sometimes available as research and raid advancement rewards.

I was really surprised when I realized how strong Ho-Oh can be. Of the Pokemon that have previously appeared on this list, some of them could definitely be considered more worthy of a higher maximum Combat Power.

Regardless, this Pokémon is easy to obtain, as it’s a common appearance in research trailers. I even have a shiny one!

=4. Groudon

pcs max.: 4115

How to get: Defeat it and catch it in a raid when it’s available!

Rarely appearing as a level 5 raid boss, Groudon is one of the strongest Pokémon in the entire game. With a wide variety of epic moves available, including even Solar Beam, multiple Groudon can cover a large number of types for easy gym/raid battles.

Marked as the best Ground-type Pokémon in the game, you should look for Groudon in raids whenever you can. Who knows, maybe we’ll see Mega Evolutions and Primal versions in the future too!

=4. Kyogre

pcs max.: 4115

How to get: Defeat it and catch it in a raid when it’s available!

Tied for fourth with Groudon, Kyogre shares the same maximum amount of combat power. Kyogre also share the exact same stat distribution. Very similar then, only it’s a Water type. All fast attacks are water-based, but charge moves come in the form of ice, lightning, and water-types.

Like Groudon, Kyogre is getting rarer. Only making rare appearances as high level raid bosses, you’ll want to join in to get your hands on this Pokémon!

2. Mewdos

pcs max.: 4178

How to get: Usually only available in EX raids. Niantic occasionally releases him as an ordinary Raid boss.

Sporting the second highest base ATK stat of any Pokemon, Mewtwo is recognized as the strongest Pokemon in the game. Not only is he a great attacker, his good defensive stats make him surprisingly hard to beat.

Additionally, Mewtwo has access to a wide variety of coverage types in its moveset. Ice, Electric, Fire, Psychic, and Ghost moves can be used. You could easily dominate raids and PvP battles with a handful of Mewtwo. Unsurprisingly, it’s one of, if not the most difficult Pokemon to obtain.

1. power off

pcs max.: 4431

How to get: Evolve Slakoth with 25 candies, then evolve Vigoroth with 100 candies.

With considerably higher stats than any other Pokémon in the game, Slaking serves as a huge tank. However, you shouldn’t think of it as the most powerful Pokémon available. Stats don’t mean everything, Slaking has terrible attack speed and his only fast move called Yawn doesn’t even do any damage.

Of course, charge attacks hit hard, but overall Slaking has a small damage per second stat. This makes it useless as an attacker and should only be used as a high HP gym addition to make life difficult for trainers.
