Top 10 Fusion Archetypes

Fusions was the first card type to use the additional deck zone, formerly known as the “fusion zone”.

With most of them requiring polymerization to be summoned, they offered a unique summoning method to incorporate into their strategies.

As time went on, entire archetypes and deck cores were released, all based around Fusion Summoning.

Some of them just require some monsters on the field, while others have their own Fusion Spells.

So if you like the purple hue of Fusion Monsters, enjoy their playstyles, or just want to try something different, a good Fusion Archetype might be perfect for you.

All the entries on this list are playable on their own, some of them are even competitively viable!

10. Old team

Chaos Ancient Gear Giant, one of the best Fusion Monsters in Yugioh

It used to be the bane of my existence when the Ancient Gears epic fusions were released, whereas now they are a bit too slow to keep up with many of the decks you see today.

Still, the Ancient Gears are casually decent, especially if you can consistently summon the big boss monsters.

Chaos Ancient Gear Giant is a tyrannical monster, capable of making you win the game outright with its firepower alone.

They have their own fusion card in old gear melting.

9. D/D

Get it on Amazon

Easily the highest skill cap archetype on the list, and possibly the highest in the entire game.

D/D monsters use the effect of slime swirl & necro slime to summon his Fusion Monsters, as well as Dark contract with the king of the swamp.

While powerful, D/Ds are very low ranked due to their reliance on other monster types.

You can successfully do a lot of Fusion Summons, even base most strategies on them, but you’ll need to XYZ or Synchro Summon to consistently win.

8. blue eyes

Extremely fun deck, sacrificing protection for raw power.

Blue-Eyes gained even more support with the release of the previous monster, as well as Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

Capable of smashing through big bosses or dealing heavy damage through direct attacks, Blue-Eyes Fusion Monsters need a lot of reinforcements in the form of Spells/Traps/Hand Traps to stay on the field.

Also worth including five headed dragon & dragon mirror for even more epic dragon fusion monsters!

7. Cyber Dragons

Cyber Dragons, the best machine archetype in Yugioh!

Get it on Amazon

One of the most supported archetypes out there, Konami loves Cyber Dragons and there are plenty of ways to bring them onto the field.

Overload Fusion and Power Bond are his main dedicated Fusion Spells, but many of them can be Special Summoned for their own effects, using monsters on the field!

With tons of cards available to seek out and protect your Cyber Dragons, they are an incredibly fun and powerful archetype.

6.ABCs

ABC, one of the best cheap Yugioh decks

Get it on Amazon

ABC-Dragon Buster used to be one of the best tournaments around, in today’s Yugioh it’s not played as much, but it’s certainly an option for those who enjoy joining/typing on their monsters.

The objective is to summon ABC-Dragon Buster as soon as possible, there it will serve to eliminate the main cards of your opponents, sacrificing himself if he gets into any trouble.

There’s a good chance it’ll get support in the future and it’s a cheap deck to build, definitely worth buying!

union hangar It’s almost a 1-Card Combo to Summon this Fusion Monster, but ABC currently doesn’t have any other Fusion Monsters on their roster.

5. HERO

HERO, one of the best economic decks of Yugioh 2018

Get it on Amazon

There are many sub-archetypes of HEROES:

  • masked HERO
  • destiny HERO
  • Elemental heroe
  • evil HERO
  • Xtra HERO

They can all work together, or work separately. Many HERO decks you see today will have some kind of Links (Xtra HEROs) in them, but they are perfectly viable casually without Link monsters.

Masked HEROES are some of the best as they only require a simple mask change to summon, very useful.

Elemental HEROES have the most support, while Destiny/Evil HEROES are pretty good too.

Everyone wants Vision HEROs to be more consistent.

How you build them is completely up to you!

You could even build various alternate decks and cards as needed.

exist heaps of different fusion spells you can add, not limited to:

Scary monsters combine edge daemons Y fluff to make his weird fusion monsters.

They have quite different, but strong effects, capable of dealing damage, summoning monsters, or protecting themselves or others.

With its own spell card with the name of Frightfur Fusionthey are actually quite fun and strong, but only effective in casual duels.

3. Shaddoll

Get it on Amazon

Shaddoll Fusion Monsters are particularly easy to Summon, due to their low Fusion Forage requirements and the addition of Shaddoll Fusion.

Shaddoll Effect Monsters are all Flip Effect Monsters, which use their effects to flip others face up/down for effects to search for cards themselves or clear your opponent’s field.

Then you have the fusions, which are monstrously powerful for dealing with enemy monsters. If any of them are sent to the graveyard, they also return a Shaddoll Spell/Trap to your hand.

The easiest way to get a bunch of the necessary Shaddoll cards is with the structure deck!

2. Moonlight

Lunalight, one of the best cheap Yugioh decks

Get it on Amazon

Currently the bane of my existence as a Sky Striker player, Lunalights are incredibly consistent and can summon big boss monsters on the first turn, even if you catch them by hand.

They used to be meta in the competitive scene until moonlight tiger was sent to the banned list.

So you basically search for the cards you need, using the various Lunalight effect monsters, and take out your big boss, then attack for the game.

Not only do these Big Boss Fusion Monsters have protection built in, the Lunalights have other effects to negate your opponent’s card effects or protect their monsters.

You don’t even need Link Monsters to dominate the casual scene with this deck, they’re one of the cheapest archetypes in the game!

This archetype comes with Lunalight Fusion.

1. invoked

Get it on Amazon

By themselves, Summons aren’t a great archetype to build a pure deck with.

Instead, you’ll want to include them with another archetype deck core.

Most people mix Invoked with Shaddoll for a really raunchy deck, swarming big Fusion Monsters to take out whatever monsters your opponent tries to Summon, as well as preventing them from using Spells or Traps 🙂

Aleister the Summonerpaired with Invocationit fits perfectly into almost any other fusion archetype deck build.

No other archetype can spawn as many epic Fusion Monsters as Invoked!
