Top 10 Pokémon TCG Theme Decks

Having played Yugioh before, I knew the best way to get in was by buying structure decks. Going into the Pokémon TCG, I thought it would be the same with theme decks. Little did I know that the latest theme deck is not the best and there are so many options!

Price wise, they are great value for money. Provide ready-to-use covers that can be upgraded with booster packs or individual ones. Even then, if you’re just looking to expand your collection, many theme decks provide a number of invaluable staples.

If you’re going to buy one (or more), it’s best to choose wisely. Playing for fun means you can use any variety of cards, so pick the one that looks the best. However, if you plan to win, make sure you spend correctly.

I’ll go over the top 10 theme decks available right now in the Pokémon TCG!

10. Sky Guardian

Utilizing Normal-, Fairy-, and Fire-type Pokémon, the Sky Guardian theme deck offers an excellent combination of cards. Lugia is a great boss monster, it reduces damage taken and doesn’t require specific energy to attack.

Additional Normal-type Pokémon provide a constant wave of beaters, I highly recommend this theme deck to any new or returning player!

9. Bright Tide

Based on water and lightning, Bright Tide focuses on an unconventional mix of types. You’ll want more copies of Lantern however, as it is an exceptional first stage evolution monster in a Water/Lightning deck.

The featured Pokemon is very capable of sweeping, dealing heavy damage while healing itself, for just 3 energy!

For a basic Pokémon, even a legendary one, the featured Volcanion is amazing. Able to keep your Benched Pokemon fueled up, it’ll also act as a tough Active Pokemon to take down.

Also incorporating Steel-type Pokémon, klinklang will beat his other main boss, dealing large amounts of damage and reducing damage taken.

7. Steady Rock

lycanroc is a fan favorite among the Pokémon community and their theme deck has been available for almost 2 years. However, time hasn’t diminished its effectiveness, with swathes of powerful fighting Pokémon filling your bank, backed by a miaustic by a crazy power of attraction.

Included rill hill as a Stadium card it makes it easier to find, narrowing down the deck to further increase the proficiency of Meowstic’s drawing power. Many different strategies can be incorporated from other sets, Rock Steady might just be the most upgradable theme deck in the game!

6. Hidden Moon

Mainly because of the featured card, Lunala is an absolute monster. While he doesn’t do much skill-wise, he does hit incredibly hard with so little energy. It’s best to use Lunala’s first ability constantly, until he’s low on HP, then use the second to move all equipped energy before he’s knocked out.

However, other Pokemon included are lackluster, so be sure to swap them out for other cards that complement Lunala. More draw cards and search power would complement Lunala well.

just look at this Pidgeot card, flashing the middle finger at any active Pokemon you don’t suspect. 3 copies of Farfetch’d provides great pulling power, you’ll want to get the featured Pidgeot and Blastoise out as quickly as possible. You can usually end up handing out a few prize cards before you start, but golden cuckoo is an excellent Stall card, providing more than enough to ensure your victory.

Specifically based on Water and Normal type Pokémon.

4. Steel Sun

I really can’t believe how much of a winner Solgaleo can be. Able to shoot most Pokémon in the game, and even shoot Benched Pokémon for easy prize cards. 160 HP is also not a joke, you also get multiple copies in the deck.

Some Pokemon included are pretty weak, so you’ll want to trade them with singles from other sets or booster packs. The core is awesome though, building your strategy around it is the way to go!

1. Flaming volcano

With possibly the strongest basic Pokémon you’ll find in any theme deck, Blazing Volcano is well worth picking up. Entei can deal up to 200 damage in one attack, for just 3 energy, and it’s a basic Pokemon!

Plus, this theme deck gives you a wide range of trainer cards to make sure your hand is filled with the cards you need. Blaziken keeps your energy coming every turn, houndoom grants insane search power and Heracross can hit like a truck for just 2 energy.
